I can’t imagine anyone using Twitter and not falling completely in love with it. The way it allows you to connect to others that you might have never before discovered is incredible. Just a simple search can find me dozens of people interested in the same things I am. Not to mention the personal relationships that I have been able to keep alive despite distances by following their page and speaking regularly through it. There is more to it than just connecting people, however. Socialization isn’t simply meant as communication from user to user, but the social nature of data. Information is now shared in massive quantities in a social way. Twitter encourages sharing, so what you find interesting, entertaining or illuminating can be passed on to the people on your list. It is through this process that we see the real change in relationships that Twitter has provided. No matter how many or how few people are followed, you are customizing your social intake of information to match your own preferences. You are creating a relationship based on what benefits you can both offer one another, on a level purely centered around that info. It doesn’t have to be personal.
